Was out at Howwood on Saturday, nice day slight breeze, mild, but the water was very cold, it did not seem to effect the fish though as there were lots of fish being caught on the day by both bait and fly anglers, I was flyfishing from a boat and after a slow start we finally got in amongst the fish, I caught 1 on a Pheasant tailed nymph, then quickly dropped another 2, before it went quiet, about an hour later my mate got one on a R/H damsel, I then took another with a Cats whisker, I then hit a wee purple patch caught another 3 and was getting takes and follows to virtually every cast, I dropped what looked like a decent Brown and was having great sport, my mate meanwhile set up with a similar pattern but could not get any interest from the fish which were taking mine so readily.
Anyone else experience this, quite often I share a boat with a mate, one of us will be catching while the other can try exactly the same set up without success.
All in all it was a good day, I kept 3, returned 2, and dropped a few, but it was also very pleasant fishing, the weather was great, even during the summer Howwood can have a bit of wind but on Saturday there was a nice breeze and conditions were perfect.
John and the team at Howwod are doing some work with weed treatment Etc so the water level was very low but again it did not affect the fishing.

| Had another good day at Howwood yesterday, weighed in 3 for 6lb 2oz, returned 6 and dropped about 6 as well, all taken on Red head damsels fished slowly just below the surface, I was fishing from the boat which seemed to work well as the bank anglers were not fairing as well. |

i was out on one of my local fisheries for the bows this weekend and blanked.every angler on the water blanked (5 of us ).There was plenty of fish rising in the centre of the fishery but outwith our reach.if we had a boat things might have been different.it was also too bright for the fishing.when the sun was covered, thats when the fish started to rise.
oh well theres allways next week |
