I use one regularly. absolutely brilliant. I would recommend a Shakespeare Expedition tube. Very safe and excellent value.

I have used it on hill lochs, just load up the pockets on it with the flee boxes and other stuff and use the carrying straps on it. It is like a large rucksack.

Some people put them in a 100 litre rucksack along with the fins etc.

Having crap knees (as well as crap skills) I didn't fancy a tube, with all that flipper-kicking to get around, so I got a canoe instead.

I can cover the water very easily, get places reasonably quickly, and use a wee drogue if I'm drifting too fast. I can even use my electric outboard, (although to take advantage of the water access code you've to be man-powered) if the wind blows up too rough to make headway with the paddle.

Apart from that, the canoe itself is Laughing Laughing Laughing - which helps if the fishing's a bit slow. And I can take a whole range of kit aboard too, including a baitcasting outfit, dapping rod, whatever. Which is nice if the conditions change and you fancy a change of tactics to match.

Sure, it's almost certainly more hassle than a float tube, and it's a fair lump dearer too, but this way I don't have to waddle down to the shore looking like an escapee from a Mother Goose pantomime...

Tight lines fellas.
Ian
